PNG files can be large, and some upload forms only accept JPG. Convert your image here to get a smaller file that works everywhere.

How to use the PNG to JPG Converter

  1. Upload your PNG.
  2. Press JPG to convert it.
  3. Save the JPG to your device.

What to expect

Smaller files

JPG usually shrinks photos a lot, which helps with email and upload limits.

Transparency

JPG has no transparency, so see-through areas become white.

Accepted everywhere

Almost every website, form and device can open a JPG.

Why change a PNG to a JPG

PNG keeps every pixel exactly, which is great for graphics but makes photos and screenshots heavy. A JPG of the same picture is usually far smaller, so it uploads faster and fits within size limits on forms and email.

What happens to transparent backgrounds

JPG can't store transparency, so any see-through part of your PNG is filled with white. On a white page, that looks natural. If you need the transparency, keep the PNG, or use PNG to WEBP for a smaller file for the web.

How we convert your image

Images are saved at quality 95 with full color detail, which keeps them looking very close to the original. That is a higher setting than many tools use, so your file may be bigger than one made at a lower quality, but it avoids the blockiness that low-quality JPGs are known for. The image keeps its original width and height.

When a form rejects your image

Application and government websites are often strict about image uploads. If your picture is rejected, read the requirements carefully. Usually, they mention a file type, a maximum file size and sometimes exact dimensions. Converting from PNG to JPG takes care of the file type, and usually brings the size down as well. Dimensions don't change here, so a required size such as 600 by 600 pixels needs to be set in a photo editor first.

Why photos are so large as PNGs

PNG compression works by finding repeated patterns, so it is great for flat areas of color. Photos have fine variations in almost every pixel, which leaves very little to compress. JPG was designed for that kind of image. That is why a screenshot of a document can be small as a PNG, while a phone photo in the same format can be many megabytes.

Frequently asked questions

How do I change a PNG to JPG?

Upload the PNG and press JPG. The new file downloads automatically.

Will I lose quality?

JPG is a lossy format, so there is a small loss, though it is rarely visible in photos.

What happens to a transparent background?

It is filled with white, as JPG can't store transparency.

Are my images kept?

Your files are only used for the conversion and are deleted from the server afterwards.

Does converting change the image size?

No. The width and height stay the same. Only the file size and format change.

Can I convert several PNGs at once?

Yes. Select several files and you get a ZIP containing the JPGs.

Is JPG the same as JPEG?

Yes. They are the same format with two spellings of the file extension.

Can I change the background to another color?

Transparent areas become white here. For other colors, edit the image first.
