How to Turn Phone Photos Into One PDF
Updated
A teacher or a form asks for one PDF, and all you have is a phone and a stack of paper. You don't need a scanner or a special app. A few good photos and one upload will do the job.
Step 1: take clear photos
- Put the page on a plain surface, somewhere with good daylight.
- Hold the phone flat above the page, so that the edges look straight.
- Keep your shadow off the paper by moving around the light.
- Tap the text on your screen to focus before you take the photo.
- Check that the writing is readable by zooming in before moving on.
Step 2: crop and rotate
Open each photo in your phone's gallery and crop it to the edges of the page. This removes the table from the picture and makes each page look more like a scan. It also gives you a smaller file.
Step 3: create your PDF
Go to Image to PDF in your phone's browser, and select all your photos. Press PDF and your single file downloads. JPG, PNG and HEIC photos all work, and each one becomes a page.
Step 4: check it before you send it
- Open the PDF and go through every page.
- Make sure that the pages are in the right order.
- Confirm that all the important details can be read.
- Check the file size against any limit you have been given.
Common problems
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| Pages are out of order | Select your photos in order, or number the file names, such as 01, 02 and 03 |
| The file is too large | Crop the photos, or shrink the PDF with Compress PDF |
| A page is sideways | Rotate that photo in your gallery and save it, then upload again |
| The writing is too faint | Retake the photo in better light, or try Scan to PDF, which improves contrast |
Will the text be searchable?
Not at first. Photos in a PDF are still pictures, so you can't search or select the words. That is usually fine for submissions. If you need search, OCR PDF can add it for clear English text. To learn more, read scanned vs digital PDFs.
A note on private documents
Be careful when sharing ID cards and other sensitive papers. Send them only to organizations that really need them. Files you upload to Badlo are used for the conversion and then deleted, as explained in our privacy policy.
