Retyping a table from a PDF is slow and easy to get wrong. This tool finds the tables in your PDF and places them in an Excel spreadsheet, where you can sort, filter and calculate.

How to use the PDF to Excel Converter

  1. Upload the PDF that contains your tables.
  2. Press Excel to extract them.
  3. Open the XLSX file and work with your data.

What to expect

Made for tables

Statements, invoices, price lists and reports with clear rows and columns give the best results.

Ready for formulas

Your data lands in spreadsheet cells, so it is ready for totals and charts once you have checked it.

Check the numbers

PDFs don't store tables as tables, so always compare important figures with the original.

Who uses PDF to Excel

Plenty of useful data only arrives as a PDF. Getting it into a spreadsheet means you can add it up, sort it and chart it without typing every number again.

How your spreadsheet is organized

Each page of the PDF gets its own sheet, named Page 1, Page 2 and so on, so you can always trace a number back to where it came from. Tables on a page are written row by row, with a blank row between them. If a page has no table, its text is placed line by line in the first column, so nothing on the page is simply dropped.

Why some tables convert better than others

A PDF has no real idea of a table. It only knows that certain text sits at certain positions, and perhaps that lines are drawn nearby. Tables with clear borders or even spacing are the easiest to recognize. Tables with merged cells or no visible structure are harder. To check whether your file holds real text at all, read our guide to scanned and digital PDFs.

Going the other way

Once your spreadsheet is finished, Excel to PDF turns it back into a file that is easy to share. If you need the wording of a document as well as its tables, try PDF to Word.

If your conversion doesn't look right

What you seeWhat to do
An empty or nearly empty sheetThe page is probably a scan. Check with the select-a-word test
All the data in one columnNo table was detected, so split it with Excel's Text to Columns
An error when convertingThe file may be damaged or password protected. Open it on your device, save a fresh copy and try again

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a PDF to Excel without retyping?

Upload the PDF and press Excel. Tables that are detected are written into an XLSX file for you to download.

Can I convert a bank statement to Excel?

Yes, if it is a digital PDF with clear rows and columns. Check the figures afterwards.

Does it work on scanned PDFs?

No. A scanned page is a picture, so tables in it can't be read by this tool.

Is my financial data kept?

Your files are only used for the conversion and are deleted from the server afterwards.

Does each PDF page become a separate sheet?

Yes. Every page gets its own sheet, named by page number.

What if my PDF has no tables?

The text is still extracted, with each line placed on its own row in the first column.

Will formulas be created?

No. PDFs only contain the final values, so you get numbers and text. You can add your own formulas afterwards.

Can I use the result in Google Sheets?

Yes. XLSX is a standard file, and Google Sheets can open it.
