Converting from PDF
PDFs are built for reading rather than editing. Converting one back to an Office format gives you something you can work on. These tools work best on digital PDFs, the kind exported from another program, as they contain real text. PDF to Word rebuilds paragraphs and tables for editing, while PDF to Excel puts each page on its own sheet.
- Text tools need real text in the file, so they can't read scanned pages.
- Image tools, such as PDF to JPG, work on any PDF, including scans.
- PDF to PowerPoint places each page as a sharp image, so the layout can't shift.
Converting to PDF
A PDF looks the same on every device, so it is the safest format for CVs, assignments, invoices and forms. Word to PDF, Excel to PDF and PowerPoint to PDF cover the main Office formats, including older DOC, XLS and PPT files. Image to PDF combines JPG, PNG, HEIC and other images into one document.
Compress, merge and split
Sometimes the format is fine and the file just needs changing. Compress PDF makes it lighter for email and upload forms, Merge PDF joins several files in the order you choose, and Split PDF keeps only the pages you need.
Organize, edit and sign
Organize PDF lets you move, turn and delete pages by sight, and Rotate PDF, Crop PDF, Remove PDF Pages and Extract PDF Pages handle single jobs. Add content with Edit PDF, Sign PDF, Fill PDF Form, Add Page Numbers and Watermark PDF.
Security, scans and repairs
Protect PDF adds a password, Unlock PDF removes one you already know, and Redact PDF permanently removes private details. For paper documents, use Scan to PDF and OCR PDF. If a file is damaged, try Repair PDF, and to spot changes between versions, use Compare PDF.
Why use these PDF tools
- One page for each job, with a clear button and no clutter.
- No sign-up, no email address and no watermark.
- Upload up to 200 MB at a time, and convert several files together.
- Works in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer.
- Files are deleted from the server after conversion.
Good to know before you upload
Password-protected PDFs can't be converted, so remove the password with the owner's permission first. When a conversion produces several files, such as one image per page, they download together as a single ZIP file. For very important documents, always check the result against the original before you rely on it.
Frequently asked questions
Are these PDF tools really free?
Yes. You don't need to pay or sign up, and no watermark is added.
Can I edit a PDF directly here?
Edit PDF adds text and pictures to any page. To rewrite existing words, convert the file with PDF to Word, edit it in Word, and then use Word to PDF.
Can these tools read scanned PDFs?
Yes. OCR PDF makes clear English scans searchable, so you can copy their text. PDF to Word and PDF to Excel work best on digital PDFs, and tools that make images work on any scan.
Do the tools work on a phone?
Yes. Each tool works in a mobile browser, with no app to install.
What happens to my files?
They are only used for the conversion, and are then deleted from the server.
Why did I get a ZIP file?
A ZIP is used when there is more than one result, such as images of several pages, so that they download as one file.
